This hidden gem in New Gloucester was recently acquired by the Royal River Conservation Trust. There's a short, easy trail that winds through the hilly woods and along beautiful Meadow Brook. 20 minutes will get you to the ultimate destination, Big Falls, a surprisingly robust waterfall along this pleasant stream. Our kids have spent many hours playing on the rocks at the falls and along the brook.
Meadow Brook water levels fluctuate a lot. If you come during times of snowmelt or after a big rain storm, the falls are especially impressive. From the same trailhead you can also check out the excellent Stream Loop and Norumbega Chapel trails, which are on private land open to the public. Lots of opportunity for rock hopping there as well.
