Our gear rental shop is well-equipped to help you enjoy your time outdoors. If you are visiting from out of town, welcome. We've got great gear and ideas on where to go during your time here. If you are a local, congratulations for living in such an extraordinary place. Please consider our rental shop an extension of your gear shed so you can go explore your beautiful back yard.

We are a small shop and cannot accommodate walk-in requests.
Pick-up at our store at 475 US Route 1 in Freeport.

Rental Terms & Conditions

Rental Time Period

  • Equipment can be rented for one full day or as many as 7 days. Pick up and drop off available during the following hours: Tuesday-Sunday 10:00-4:00; Monday 9:00-10:00am (Monday by appointment only).

  • When figuring out the time period during which you need to rent an item, consider prep time (packing a backpack, trying out a stove, etc.) and clean-up time (drying out a tent, washing dishes, etc.), and include that in your rental reservation.

  • Rentals must be reserved at least 24 hours in advance.

Payment and Fees

  • ​Payment in full must be received to hold reservation.

  • A refundable damage deposit of 25% of the order value will also be applied upon reservation. The damage deposit will be refunded within one week of rental return if equipment is determined to be in the same condition in which it was rented. You may be charged an additional fee up to the brand new replacement cost of the Rental Equipment if it is returned damaged, or not returned, regardless of the age of the Rental Equipment at the time of rental. GearME shall determine, in its sole discretion, if damaged Rental Equipment will be repaired or replaced at your expense. 

  • Equipment must be returned by 4:00 pm on the scheduled date. Items not returned by 5:00pm will incur an additional 1-day rental fee for each day the equipment is not returned.

Primary Renter

  • Each group must have a primary renter that is 21 years old or older. All items will be rented to that individual. He/she will be responsible for ensuring the safety of others in the group, including adults and children, and ensuring appropriate treatment of equipment. A current driver's license or photo ID must be presented at time of pick-up.

  • The Primary Renter is responsible for the safe transportation of all Rental Equipment. GearME staff shall approve the security of the load of any Rental Equipment strapped or affixed to a vehicle. You may request our assistance (which we are happy to provide) with the loading and securing of Rental Equipment to a vehicle, but the Primary Renter is solely responsible for securing the Rental Equipment properly. Appropriate and additional load-securing accessories, such as foam blocks or additional straps, may be available upon request.

Pick-Up & Return

  • Upon pick-up, renter must inspect all equipment carefully and report any missing or damaged items to a staff member. Failure to note any discrepancies may result in a fee for damaged or missing equipment.

  • Equipment must be returned by 4:00 pm on the scheduled date. Items not returned by 5:00 pm will incur an additional 1-day rental fee for each day the equipment is not returned.

  • Up to two (2) PFDs are supplied by GearME with every boat rental. Additional PFDs are available to rent. ​

  • All items must be returned clean and dry. .

 

Cancelation Policy

  • Cancelations made 48 hours or more prior to scheduled pick-up time receive full refund

  • Cancelations made less than 48 hours prior to scheduled pick-up time receive 50% refund.

  • Renter may also choose to reschedule with an additional 15% rescheduling fee.

Policies

  • Consumption of drugs and alcohol are not permitted during use of rental equipment.

  • Summer Rentals: You must respect the power of the ocean, rivers, streams, lakes, and ponds. They can kill you if you do not take the proper precautions. 

  • ALL PEOPLE ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR A PROPERLY-FITTED PERSONAL FLOTATION DEVICE (PFD) WHILE BOATING OR PADDLEBOARDING IN ANY CAPACITY. You understand that use of a PFD does not remove all risks of injury, nor does use of a PFD make boating or paddleboarding inherently safe. 

  • Winter Rentals: Individuals using rental equipment during the winter must be fully prepared for the extremes of Maine winter, even during short outings. This includes, at a minimum, appropriate layers of synthetic or wool clothing with a waterproof outer layer, hat and gloves, insulated boots, extra layer, hand warmers, a light source, and energy food.​
