Consignment Policies

Preparing Items for Consignment

  • First ask yourself, "Would I sell this item to a friend?" If yes, proceed.

  • Check here for brands and items we sell

  • Put everything that's washable through a wash cycle, even if you think it's clean. If you don't have tech wash for Gore-Tex and down, we can wash the item with Nikwax for a small fee.

  • For the best chance of selling, bring gear in well before season starts (i.e. bring paddling gear in March/April, bring snow gear in September/October)

  • Must be in very good, gently used condition (or better), a current style with up-to-date technology, and item must be ready to use as-is with no repairs needed

  • Must be clean with no pet hair or stains; sleeping bags and clothing must be freshly laundered with unscented detergents. Batteries must be included where applicable. Vehicle racks must include all parts. If we determine we must perform any repairs or cleaning beyond light dusting, a fee will be charged per item. Fees are as follows: Basic cleaning fee $1 / Off-site cleaning fee $2 / Battery replacement $.50.

UPDATED Consignment Drop-Off Process

Due to the growing quantity of drop-offs we need to change our intake process to an appointment-based system. We will also be more selective about the items we take, focusing more resolutely on top brands and current styles.

Please note: We'll begin limiting the L.L.Bean items we accept, taking only their higher-end or technical items.

  • You have two options for how and when to drop off items:

    • Book an appointment online (not by phone). We'll do a thorough inspection of your items during the appointment and let you know what we'll keep. You can go home with the rest, along with an itemized list of what we accepted. All new consignors should make an appointment for their first drop-off.

    • Drop-and-run with donation of declined items. You should use this option only if you'd like us to donate anything we decide not to take. We'll look through everything within a few days and decide which items we'll keep. Anything we decide not to take will be donated without delay. We are not able to retain or store those items for later pick-up. If you have items you'd prefer to take back home, an appointment is your best option.

Pricing and Profit Sharing

  • We generally price items at 55-60% off the most recent retail price, +/- depending on condition and available inventory. If we discover a previously undisclosed flaw after accepting the item, we may reduce the price immediately without notice.

  • Items are discounted more each month. Seasonal items may be discounted at the end of each season. Off-season items, if accepted, may not begin price reductions until the proper season.

  • GearME reserves the right to discount items during promotional sale periods, or place items on clearance.

  • Once your item sells you will receive a percentage of the sale profit based on the item's original value.

    • Under $100 MSRP:  45% back, or 60% as store credit

    • $100 to $500 MSRP:  50% back, or 60% store credit

    • $500+ MSRP:  60% back, or 60% store credit

  • You can also elect to donate 50% of the sale price to one of the local non-profits on our donation list

  • Checks are available in-store upon request, but sellers must wait for the 3-day return period to pass before picking up a check. Checks are generally not available on weekends except with advance request. Store credit is available at any time. We can mail checks upon request for a $1 processing fee.

  • NEW: If you'd like, you may book a check pick-up appointment online (not by phone). Select a date on which you'd like to pick up your consignment check, and we'll have it printed and ready for you.

End of Consignment

  • Initial consignment period is 3 months, at which point the consignor has 7 days in which to retrieve items. After 7 days, GearME will have discretion to keep the item as store-owned property or donate it.

  • It is the seller's responsibility to keep track of the time frame and retrieve their item by the appropriate date. The seller will not be contacted at the end of the 3-month consignment period.

  • If you choose to pick up your expired items, please contact us in advance to gather everything before your arrival.

Products

Items We Accept

GearME sells top quality second-hand outdoor gear and apparel for outdoor adventures. We sell only premier brands in very good or better condition. All equipment is taken in prior to each season, so it's important to check with us if you are unsure when to bring in your gear.

A note on bikes: Our new insurance policy does not cover bikes, so at this time we

cannot take them. We're looking for a new policy!

A note on skis: We only take skate skis or classic skis for in-track or backcountry. All classic skis must have up-to-date NNN or SNS bindings and a waxless (fish scale) base. We only accept wax skis if they are racing skis or skate skis. We cannot take alpine, telemark, or alpine touring ski equipment.
